Samsung refuses to produce screens for iPhone SE 4

In an announcement on March 27, Samsung refused to produce screens for iPhone SE 4 due to not reaching an agreement on screen price with Apple.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple plans to upgrade Apple's low-cost phone model iPhone SE 4. The company will remove the Home button and design it in a modern edge-to-edge screen style. To do this, Apple will use the screen of the iPhone 13 Series. Experts say that the strategy of reusing technology from older iPhone generations is a good way to reduce operating costs.

In November 2023, Samsung, BOE and Tianma competed to win a contract to produce screens for Apple's iPhone SE 4 model. Samsung has offered the lowest price of about 30 USD for each screen panel. BOE and Tianma's proposals are 35 USD and 40 USD respectively. However, Apple objected and proposed a price of around 20 USD.

According to the latest information from ZDNet Korea, Apple and Samsung were unable to reach a common agreement on the price of OLED screens. “Accepting low profits for an older generation product is not really reasonable, while the company already has abundant revenue from producing screens for high-end iPhone lines,” Samsung said.

Tianma, on its part, did not meet Apple's screen quality standards. Therefore, all iPhone SE 4 screens will be manufactured by China's BOE.

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch in 2025.
