Lee Joo-ho, a fellow at Samsung Research (SR), a leading research organization for Samsung Electronics, received the Best Leader Award in the field of communication standardization from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a global technology expert group.
Launched in 1963, IEEE is the world's largest expert organization in the electrical and electronics, information and communications, and computer fields, with 427,000 members from over 190 countries.
Fellow Lee Joo-ho was recognized for his pivotal role in the development and standardization of global mobile communication technology from 3G to 6G, and was the sole recipient of the 'Career Awards Communication Standardization Top Leader Award' established this year by the IEEE Communications Division (ComSoc, Communications Society). did.
The Top Leader Award in the field of communications standardization, awarded for the first time by IEEE ComSoc this year, was selected through a two-month review process by 14 judges, and this fellow, who has made unrivaled achievements in the field of global communications standardization, was selected as the first recipient.
The awards ceremony was held on December 5 at the 'Globecom 2023' conference hosted by IEEE in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Fellow Lee Joo-ho has led advanced research and standardization of mobile communication technology since 2000, when 3G smartphones were commercialized in earnest.
In particular, he contributed to the standardization of 4G LTE technology by serving as vice-chairman of the RAN 1 working group of 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project), a global mobile communications standardization organization, from February 2003 to August 2009, and was selected as an IEEE Fellow in 2018, leading to international was recognized for his contributions. IEEE Fellow is the highest level of technician selected from within the top 0.1% of IEEE members.

IEEE ComSoc is recognized as the most authoritative organization in the information and communications field. Former Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Ki-tae, the protagonist of the 'Anycall Legend', and former Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Shin Jong-kyun, who contributed to the development of the world's first color phone, received the IEEE ComSoc's 'Industry Leader Award' in 2004 and 2016, respectively.
Samsung Research is leading the standardization of mobile communication technology, having two chairs and four vice-chairmen in 3GPP, the world's largest mobile communication technology standards organization that established 5G international standards.
